About Kachchh Commissionerate & its Jurisdiction

Kandla is the second largest seaport of India situated in Kachchh District of Gujarat State in western India.  The port of Kandla is situated in the creek of Kandla which is at a distance of 90 kms from the Gulf of Kachchh.  Kandla Port is the gateway port for states like Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir and the rich Industrial belt of West and North India.  This all weather port mainly handles agricultural cargo and other bulk liquid cargo.  Kandla Port inaugurated in 1956 and was converted in Port Trust with effect from 20.02.1964.  Port has 11 jetties for dry cargo and 6 jetties for liquid cargo.  In addition two virtual jetties for discharging petroleum products to shore tanks.

Mundra Port has become part of Kandla Commissionerate since 01.04.2006.  Mundra is an all weather port having a natural draft of 17 Mts notified in September, 1997 for operation by Gujarat Adani Private Limited.  The port is specialized in handling bulk import and export cargo including liquid cargo.  The loading and unloading is mostly done by a conveyor system.  Since July, 2003, a container terminal was started operating by Mundra International Container Terminal.  One SBM is also installed in October, 2005 for handling crude for Indian Oil Corporation and pumped through Kandla Bhatinda pipeline (KBPL) upto panipat.  There are twelve container freight stations namely  CG-7, MICT, Mundra CFS, Saurastra CFS, Sea Bird, Honey Comb, All Cargo, Aushotosh, Patvolk, Trasworld, CWC and Exim yard operating in the close vicinity of the port.

Since, 15.08.2006, Bhuj preventive division having jurisdiction of whole of Kachchh district except Kandla and Mundra is attached with Kandla commissionerate.  It has four minor ports viz Tuna, Mundra, Mandvi and Jakhau,  where country craft are plying to Arab countries and East African countries.  It has a long seacoast stretches from Kandla to Kori creek and land boarder with Pakistan upto Rajasthan.
